Brussels (dts news agency) – EU trade commissioner Phil Hogan resigns after violating the corona rules in his home country Ireland. Several media reported that on Wednesday evening. Hogan had come under increasing pressure in the past few days.
He had recently attended a gala dinner in Ireland, at which significantly more guests were present than allowed. He is also said to have violated quarantine requirements. Despite several apologies, the EU Commissioner had recently lost more and more support in his home country.

Irish leaders had openly called for Hogan’s replacement. The Irishman was EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development from 2014 to 2019. Since December 2019 he has been EU trade commissioner.
