Berlin (dts news agency) – President of the Bundestag Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) demands from the EU Commission more rigor and control in the award of grants and loans in the corona crisis. “The EU must make it more clear to its member states what they are getting 750 billion euros for and what not for,” said Schäuble of the “Neue Westfälische”.
Even so far, the member states have by no means drawn all of the funds from Brussels, especially poorer countries. “We therefore need specific suggestions as to how the aid can be invested in a targeted manner, and stronger controls are necessary,” said Schäuble. The decision of what money is spent on and liability for it should not diverge. “And when individual countries get money, they have to meet certain requirements,” said the CDU politician.
